Long time no see!

I haven't abandoned the game, I am still working on new features that are yet to be released!

I wanted to make this post to talk about what might be coming to the game, and what I am working on:

  • I am making a new event system for the server-side that will enable new game mechanics in the long run, it takes time to build and test, but it will be worth it at the end, because it will make available features like automation and event-based actions on pixels (example of some ideas that I am working on through this system: automated defence systems, bunker, etc.)
  • Automation is still something that I want to implement in the game, but I want it to be limited, I still want the players to have a big impact when they are connected, so automation will be limited in terms of possibilites at first
  • I have thinked a lot about how to make the map more dynamic and how to add some interest points. I am currently focusing on the idea of making each pixels provide a percentage of production for each resources, which will make it more strategic to control some parts of the map, with a system of biomes, for example, have a desert biome where you'll be able to have between a 50% and 100% production of petrol, planes where there is no petrol, etc. Still thinking and testing it right now, but I think it might be a great addition and force more strategic placement and alliances.
  • Speaking of alliances, I am also thinking about implementing a Clan system, with alliances and wars which will help players to see who's with who, and decide with more diplomacy what to do. It is still in the thinking process tho, but I am confident on the fact that it will bring life to the game.
  • Currently, one of the most defeating point of the game is the retention of players , and I think that it is related to a bad understanding of the game for the first gameplay hours. I want to implement an interactive tutorial to help new players get into the game.
  • I want also to rework the UI to make it mobile-friendly, currently it is possible to install PixelWar directly on your mobile through PWA, but the UI makes it impossible to player on a small screen. I’m making it a priority to provide a revamped UI for mobile-friendly usage. Furthermore, I want to make a build for PC and Phones directly on Steam and App stores, to make it easier for new users to join the game, and have a better control on the viewport of the user. This is because the game is not working on Safari nor Firefox, because of their own implementation of Web standards, which makes it difficult or sometimes impossible to make the game work properly on these web browsers.
  • I also want to add a Referral system which will encourage people to invite their friends to play on the game, which might provide organic growth to the game and allow for a bigger player base.
  • Finally, the Marketing, currently there are not enough players that are joining the game to make it sustainable in terms of player count, I want to enhance that by investing more in marketing and making the game more user-friendly.
